Summertime Mocktails

ORLANDO, Fla. (Ivanhoe Newswire) — An average 12 ounce beer holds around 150 calories, a five ounce glass of red wine, around 125. And just one three ounce cosmo holds over 140 calories! If you’re trying to cut back this summer, you may want to start with alcohol. This doesn’t mean you’re restricted to drink plain old water 24/7.

Enjoy a classic watermelon margarita, minus the tequila. Puree chunks of seedless watermelon, mix in lime juice and the sweetener agave, top with some sparkling water and enjoy! Or if you’re a mojito person, try one virgin blueberry style. Mix mint leaves, a handful of blueberries, lime juice, simple syrup and a splash of club soda. Add some ice, shake and sip. If you’re looking for something new, how about trying a pineapple cobbler? Mix pineapple juice and lime juice, shake well and strain into a glass over ice. Top with club soda and float strawberry juice on top for a pretty and savory drink. For another pretty drink, try an Arizona sunset. Over ice, add a splash of grenadine. Mix sprite and orange juice in a separate container, and pour the mixture over the grenadine. Enjoy recipes to fill your glass, and help you fit into that bikini this summer.

You can also soak fresh fruit in a pitcher of water overnight for added taste. And for the kids, add some grenadine to a regular coke and you’ve got a Roy Rodgers. For younger kids, and a little less sugar, mix grenadine with sprite for a Shirley temple.
