KITS: Herramientas Para Triunfar

Eugene, Ore. (Ivanhoe Newswire) — El jardin de infancia, o kindergarten es un momento crucial en el desarrollo infantil. Los expertos indican que el comienzo de la vida estudiantil sienta la pauta para crecer intelectual y socialmente y tener mas oportunidades de llegar a graduarse de bachillerato. Y hay cosas que los adultos pueden hacer para preparar al niño antes aun de que pisen el colegio, para que lo hagan con el pie correcto.

Para un niño pequeño la transicion de la casa o la guarderia a kinder puede ser dificil. Asimismo, es un reto para los padres y educadores el lidiar con las conductas que acompañan esta transicion. Katherine Pears, PhD, es una sicologa clinica infantil. Pears estudio el programa de intervencion temprana “KITS,” o niños en transicion, creado para pequeños con problemas de desarrollo. E indica que tomar un programa de intervencion el verano antes de entrar al jardin de infancia, prepararia a los niños para entrar con buen pie, aprendiendo no solo lectura, escritura y matematicas, pero como sentarse y prestar atencion, o resolver un problema con un compañero de clase.

Unos 200 niños participaron en un estudio del programa “KITS.” Se comprobo que aprendieron a regular mejor sus emociones, y controlar sus sentimientos de frustracion. Asimismo, aprendieron a poner atencion y a no interferir con el ritmo de las lecciones. Kristen Barnett es una maestra, y para ella la tecnica de agradecerle a los niños por adelantado su buen comportamiento hace que enseñarles sea mas facil. Por ejemplo, decir “gracias por caminar cuando ve que estan a punto de salir corriendo,” o “gracias por acordarse de hablar en voz baja” cuando el nivel de ruido en la clase comienza a elevarse. Asimismo, la palabra “cuando” es muy util, como cuando te sientes con tu grupo te ganas tu recompensa. Los padres tambien puede usar las enseñanzas de KITS. Parte del programa incluye dos reuniones mensuales, y sesiones de adiestramiento para aprender diferentes tecnicas, tales como el juego luz roja, luz verde, para fomentar la auto regulacion.

Tambien, saber dar ordenes concisas y evitar usar las palabras “no,” “detente,” o “frases” en negativo. En vez de decir “no dejes los zapatos tirados” usar en vez “por favor ponlos en el armario.”

Los niños que participaron en estos talleres de intervencion temprana de KITS durante el verano tenian mas habilidades con el lenguage que los que no asistieron a ellos. Asimismo según los maestros, al final del curso escolar tenian mas capacidad de auto regulacion.
