Turning A Promotion Loss Into A Career Win!

0

Orlando, Fla. (Ivanhoe Newswire) — We all have career goals, that next step up the ladder. But in a job market where opportunities are tightening, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports job openings are down more than eight percent from last year. What happens when that promotion you’ve worked so hard for doesn’t materialize?

You put in long hours, gave it your all, made the company cash, and saved resources, now it’s time to talk promotion.

A survey by nectar saw that 31.5 percent of people received a promotion within the past one to two years. So, what do you do when you’re not one of them? Turn that ‘no’ into an opportunity!

First, see exactly why you got turned down and ask for feedback. Questions like “What specific skills or achievements were lacking for this position?” Can help you understand why.

Instead of seeing it as a setback, see it as a way to invest in yourself, sites like Coursera, Harvard online learning, offer up ways to help you grow.

Next, be promotable! You can do this by posting your success. According to WiserNotify 70 percent of employers say that a personal brand is more important than a resume, and 84 percent of consumers believe that a company’s reputation is influenced by employee personal brands.

And remember not getting promoted isn’t the end. Talk to your manager about other opportunities within the company and how you can grow.

If you aren’t satisfied or you feel like you’re not going to be able to advance, it may be time to consider other options whether that’s finding a new job at a new company or moving to a different team or department.
