MIAMI, Fla. (Ivanhoe Newswire) — It’s the essence of Hollywood scripts: woman takes her mom’s idea, Expands it into a million-dollar empire. Except this next story is fact, not fiction.
“We’re a lifestyle brand, mostly functional products,” explained Jenna Sellers Miller, President and CEO of Architec Brands.
The ‘we’ Miller is talking about is her company that’s skyrocketing.
“In 2007 we were at $3 million, now in 2017 we’re projected to be at $12 million by the end of the year.” Millers stated.
But long before her company ‘Architec’ began, 37 years to be exact, Miller’s mom showed her how ideas can become profits.
“We were moving from one apartment to another and our carpet got stained by the plant underneath it.” Millers told Ivanhoe.
Her mom searched the stores but a product to protect flooring from indoor plants didn’t exist.
Miller continued, “So she created it, and pretty much within the next two years she was in every major retailer.”
So when Miller was inventing her first product she thought about what her mom had done.
Miller’s advice was: “The biggest thing is does it solve a problem?”
The gripper cutting board was born with slip-proof suctions. Miller says you don’t always have to reinvent the wheel.
“We’re improving the way it works by applying elements of architecture to it.” She said.
After that one popular product came six different houseware brands including eco-smart, made in the US from recycled plastic.
Miller said “We’ve saved over two million containers from landfills from 2007 up to now.”
Miller is also a mentor to the young women in her office as her mom was to her.
Megan Grennan, the Marketing Manager for Architec Brands said “It really did teach me confidence.”
