¿Graduados En El 2020, Diploma En Tristeza?

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Ivanhoe Newswire) — Los jovenes que se graduaron de bachillerato en el año 2020 nacieron justo despues del 9/11, y su entrada a la vida adulta se produce ahora durante otro evento que esta sacudiendo al mundo. Expertos nos dicen como los padres pueden ayudar sus hijos a navegar estos momentos donde la ansiedad que acompaña la entrada a la universidad se une a la incertidumbre y miedo en tiempos de pandemia.

Para los graduados de bachiller este año, ha habido muy poca pompa debido a las circunstancias. La epidemia de covid-19 hizo que los proms se suspendieran y las graduaciones se celebraran en exteriores y con restricciones. Los expertos en salud mental indican que los adolescentes en Estados Unidos estaban sufriendo alarmantes niveles de ansiedad antes del covid-19. Y ahora, se esta sumando una sensacion de perdida a esa ecuacion. Elizabeth Koschmann es la directora de un programa juvenil para mejorar la salud mental de estudiantes de entre 8 a 18 años de edad. El programa ofrece a los jovenes estrategias para sobrellevar la situacion y ha tenido éxito en reducir los sintomas de depresion y ansiedad.

Koschmann indica que los padres deben de estar alerta para detectar señales de depresion en su hijos, como cambios en la personalidad, o verlos retraidos y durmiendo en exceso. Asimismo, los padres deben de entender que es valido que lo jovenes experimenten un sentimiento de perdida. Los expertos recomiendan ayudarlos a socializar con sus amigos usando la tecnologia a su alcance, y darles estrategias para lidiar con la ansiedad, como que hagan ejercicio al aire libre. Encontrando formas de celebrar haber terminado con exito una fase de su vida y prepararlos para un nuevo capitulo.
