TempSure Skin Tightening – In-Depth Doctor Interview

0

Dennis Dass, MD, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Beverly Hills talks about how a new treatment that accurately measures temperature can open new doors in plastic surgery.

Interview conducted by Ivanhoe Broadcast News in April 2018.

Tell us about the procedure, how is it different from other skin tightening procedures?

Dr. Dass: TempSure Envy is an exciting new treatment that uses a radiofrequency platform to heat up tissue. It delivers consistent results because we can monitor temperature and it’s nonsurgical. It’s painless and it delivers consistent results for skin tightening as well as improvement of fine wrinkles.

When you say skin tightening what would the before and after look like?

Dr. Dass: It improves wrinkles around the eyes so you get improvement of lower eyelid wrinkles, improvement of joweling, it can also be used in other areas of the body like the abdomen or the hands or pretty much anywhere.

So is it a dramatic change or is it more of a subtle change?

Dr. Dass: This is nonsurgical so it’s more of a subtle change. You will see some changes immediately but patients will require about three to four treatments for optimal results.

Tell me how the procedure works.

Dr. Dass: We use the temperature probe to deliver radiofrequency energy and it heats up the tissue. With this device we actually see the temperature that we’re heating the tissue up to and we can monitor how long we’re keeping it at that temperature so that we get consistent results.

And how long does it take?

Dr. Dass:  It takes about five to seven minutes per area. So we can do a full face in about forty minutes.

What about recovery time? Are any kinds of bandages or salves used?

Dr. Dass: The beauty of this treatment is there is absolutely no down time and it’s totally painless.

So afterwards you can go straight to work?

Dr. Dass: You can go straight back to work. In fact, we encourage you to get the treatment just before a special event because you’ll have a glow to your face and you’ll look amazing.

Who is this best for?

Dr. Dass: It’s best for patients who have some early signs of aging and they just want some tightening effects or some lifting effects to their face.

And is there anybody that it wouldn’t be good for?

Dr. Dass: It’s probably not a replacement for surgical treatment. It’s not a replacement for facelifts or a lower eyelid surgery but it’s good for patients who are seeing early signs of aging.

So it’s good for putting off a facelift or something more traumatic?

Dr. Dass: Correct. It’s good for early signs of aging and also for maintenance of someone who has had a surgical procedure in the past.

How new is this procedure?

Dr. Dass: The actual device is brand new. It’s been out for just a few months because we can actually measure temperature. But the actual platform radiofrequency energy has been around for years. The problem is it delivers inconsistent results because we don’t know the temperature that we’re getting the tissue heated up to. Now we can get consistent results.

So I am thinking there wouldn’t be errors, you wouldn’t actually get too hot or not hot enough?

Dr. Dass: Correct, totally painless we’re not going to cause any burns. it’s a very safe treatment.

What is the cost variability?

Dr. Dass: The cost is going to be variable per geographic location. It’s typically around three hundred dollars per area.

And then you come three times?

Dr. Dass: yes, three treatments.

What haven’t I asked you that you think is important to include?

Dr. Dass:  Gary?

Gary: I would say that we usually have patients that see results immediately. We give them three treatments and we see results immediately. We can talk about the different areas of the face.

So where are we talking about?

Dr. Dass: The treatment can be used anywhere on the face. I like to use it on the lower eyelids, around the neck and jaw because those are areas that we really see signs of aging. However we also use it on the forehead and on the cheeks and down on to the chest.

And how long will it last?

Dr. Dass: That’s a good question. The treatment doesn’t stop the aging process but it helps reverse it.

And because it’s so new you really don’t know how long it’s going to last?

Dr. Dass: The thing is the actual treatment modality has been around for years and it’s been shown to work. But on some people it works really well and on others doesn’t. Now we’re going to get consistent results because we know the temperature. So we’re going to get great results in everybody.

In the past, when you used the older modality, was it years that the treatment would last or months?

Dr. Dass: I think it probably makes sense to do a maintenance treatment about every six to twelve months.

This whole story is really on cost and temperature, that’s the breakthrough right?

Dr. Dass:  The time and the temperature.

You want to talk more about that? What is the result is on the facelift?

Dr. Dass: One of the improvements of the radiofrequency technology that we’ve seen with temperature is that we can measure the actual temperature that we’re heating the tissue to. So that’s how we get consistent results. And because we’re measuring the temperature it’s safe and it’s effective.
