Is There a Perfect Paint Color?

Is There a Perfect Paint Color?TAMPA, Fla. (Ivanhoe Broadcast News) -- Some say picking the perfect paint can make or break a room. Pam Sather helps frustrated homeowners put a little color in their life.

It's not easy to select a room's pick a paint color. With so many shades available Sather, an artist and color expert, started the I Pick Paint Color business to guide homeowners in the right direction. "Everybody's home is different, and I'm not trying to get Pam Sather into your home. I'm trying to get you into your home," she tells Ivanhoe.

Is There a Perfect Paint Color?Sather helps homeowners choose the right color for their rooms. Emily Carter's first choice was gold but Sather steered her away from the yellows and found a brown with gold undertones. Carter says, "I would have picked a color that had [gold], and I think I would have been disappointed because it would have been too much."

Another homeowner sought Sather out for advice; Kristy Roberts has a new house and wanted a red dining room. Sather, however, chose a darker color to give the room richness. She says, "My goal is I don't want people to walk into your house and say 'I love the colors on your walls, this is so fantastic!' I want people to say 'I love your dining room.'"

Roberts says, "I was very concerned about the color Pam chose because when you look at it on the swatch it looks brown." Sather warns people not to trust a paint name or even the swatch. Also, consider the size of the room. A lighter color can make a small room feel more spacious, while a darker color makes a big room cozier. A warm hue in the living room gives a more inviting atmosphere. Take into account architectural details, varied intensities and hues can accentuate or hide them.

Sather also stresses the importance of good paint. High quality paint performs better for a longer of time. It's less prone to yellow, goes on smoother and won't leave brush marks. Sather charges $90 for a consultation and $90 for a color plan.
