Chef's Corner: Valentine's Day Chef
(Ivanhoe Newswire) -- A former accountant is using her knack for numbers in a new way. She’s found her true love as a gourmet chef. She’s sharing that love today with a sweet and simple recipe for Valentine’s Day. Recipes follow report!
Amanda Stults creates gourmet treats every day for six days a week, 12 to 14 hours a day. She says: “I like to produce. I like to use my hands and make things."
Two years ago, this chef was crunching numbers as an accountant. “Every time I sat in front of the computer, and I just sat there and sat there and sat there, I knew that this isn’t what I wanna be doing,” Stults tells Ivanhoe.
Instead she combined her love for food with her math skills. “I didn’t think really about how much this is going to pay me or how fast can I move up through a company.”
Today Stults shares the secrets behind a decadent chocolate cake. She says it’s simple ingredients and a very basic technique. Start with cocoa, sugar, flour, along with baking power and baking soda "because we want to make sure this cake rises and that it is fluffy and moist,” Stults says.
Add melted butter, whole milk, eggs, and real vanilla extract. Mix for two minutes, add hot water, and mix some more. Stults uses a non-stick silicone pan with a holiday theme. She says: “And now that we have our baked cake, the decoration is very versatile. We chose to do a coffee-flavored butter cream, and for decoration we’re going to put a little bit of pink and red sprinkles.” Then it’s time to share with someone you love for a happy Valentine's Day.
One of Stults' favorite recipes is toffee because she says it incorporates science and food.
