1 1/2 cups coarsely ground of finely chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon baking soda
Directions: Thoroughly grease two 8-inch round cake pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the egg yolks. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together. Add the buttermilk to the butter, sugar, and yolk mixture, alternating with the flour mix. Beat the eggs whites till stiff but still wet. Fold into the batter and fold in the chopped walnuts. Fill the grease 8-inch cake pans two-thirds full and bake 35 to 40 minutes in a 350-degree oven until done.
