Frying Foods without Oil

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Ivanhoe Newswire) -- Just about anything tastes good fried. French fries, deep fried Oreos, fried ice cream or deep fried cheese … they're all tasty, and all laden with grease, fat and calories. Now there's a new technology that makes tasty fried food without extra oil.

We all know fried food is bad for us, but a deep fried, crispy French fry is hard to resist
"I know they're not necessarily the healthiest thing for you, but they do taste good," one French fry-eater proclaimed to Ivanhoe.
"They're tasty, maybe a little greasy," another said.
A little greasy? Deep fried foods are laden with oil and calories. An average large fries has 540 calories and 28 grams of fat
Now, food processing engineer Kevin Keener, Ph.D., of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., has a healthier way to make fried foods. He's invented an oven that makes food taste identical to traditionally deep fried food, without using any additional oil.
"It will cook the inside," Dr. Keener explained. "It will cook the outside and create that crust just like it would in hot oil emersion frying."
It's called a radiant fryer. It cooks food with 50 percent less oil, fat and calories than typical deep fryers.
Specially designed lamps inside the oven emit infrared energy. This produces heat from light that we cannot see. It cooks food perfectly and is ideal for cooking food that is pre-formed and is all the same shape.
"If we want to fry food faster, we just turn up the energy," Keener explained. "So we can take and produce a fried food product in the range of a minute."
Food comes out looking and tasting just like it's been fried in oil, minus the extra calories and fat.
A small radiant oven can churn out 300 dozen doughnuts per hour
