Talk WIth Your Eyes!

DALLAS (Ivanhoe Newswire) -- A lot of things can happen in the blink of an eye. And now a computer program is taking advantage of that concept and allowing people to rely on their eyes instead of their hands.

Becca Matlock's son, Matt, has cerebral palsy.

"When Matt was born he was stuck in the birth canal; the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck which cut off his oxygen," says Matlock. The 22 year old's brain is constantly bombarding his body with thousands of electrical impulses leaving him trapped in a body he cannot control and frustrated by an outside world he has trouble communicating with.

That is until now...

Thanks to a computer program called Quick Glance, Matt's world is starting to open up.

"I get correspondence from people that tells me this has given them a life when they didn't have much of a life before," says Robert Chappell, president of EyeTech Digital Systems, Inc.

Quickglace uses a camera and special software to help people like matt speak, use e-mail and surf the Internet, and it's all done without ever having to click on a mouse. The user only needs to blink or gaze at a particular point on the screen. The camera tracks eye movement to allow the user to control computer functions. Everything from playing games to creating art can be done with the system.

For Matt, this new technology is more than just an eye-opener … it has opened a window to his world.

Quick Glance is designed to run with standard windows applications and can be used by people with diseases ranging from Lou Gehrig's to carpel tunnel syndrome.
