The Materialistic Have More Post-Event Stress
(Ivanhoe Newswire) – People who are materialistic are more greatly affected by traumatic events, and these events are more likely to make them spend compulsively.
Research from Michigan State University, has found people who are possession-driven tend to have higher stress levels and lower self-esteem. The two-part study looked at citizens from an Israeli town under severe rocket attacks, and a survey of 855 U.S. residents about their spending habits and fear of death. The team found people who are materialistic reported more post-event stress, which manifests in compulsive and impulsive buying. These stress-related buys then lead to low self-esteem.
“This compulsive and impulsive spending is likely to produce even greater stress and lower well-being. Essentially, materialism appears to make bad events even worse,” study lead Ayalla Ruvio, was quoted as saying.
