CPAP Makes Sleep Apnea Patients Look Better
(Ivanhoe Newswire) – People who suffer from sleep apnea may actually look better if they use a CPAP system while they sleep.
A study from the University of Michigan looked at patients who were suffering from sleep apnea and used a CPAP system to help them breathe at night. Using a face-mapping program, “before” and “after” pictures were taken of patients before they began using CPAP and after using CPAP for a few months. Twenty-two independent appearance raters were then shown both pictures without knowing which picture was the “before” or “after,” and asked to rate the pictures on attractiveness, alertness, and youthfulness. Two-thirds of the time raters picked the “after” photo as the more attractive, more alert, and more youthful, and a further two-thirds of the time the raters were able to choose which photo came after treatment.
