Lasers for Better Liposuction
(Ivanhoe Newswire) -- Liposuction removes fat within one procedure, but the sagging skin that can occur afterwards is discouraging for many contemplating the liposuction. Now, a new treatment using lasers to melt away fat could improve liposuction and prevent sagging skin.
The laser-assisted lipolysis, which uses lasers to melt fat and causes the collagen to contract so that the skin tightens, was used in combination with traditional liposuction on 2,183 people who wanted fat removed from various parts of the body including the neck, belly, arms, and thighs. Researchers measured the participants’ weight, diameter of the area treated, and skin tightness before treatment and at the follow up appointments after the treatment was complete.
After undergoing laser-assisted lipolysis and liposuction, the patients all showed reduced fat bulk and tightening skin in the areas treated.
“Combining traditional liposuction with laser lipolysis has now been shown to produce well-sculpted bodies with tight skin,” Abbas Chamsuddin, M.D., an Interventional Radiologist at the Center for Laser and Interventional Surgery in Atlanta, was quoted as saying.
Furthermore, laser-assisted lipolysis is able to remove higher volumes of fat than traditional liposuction while still remaining a minimally invasive procedure.
Being able to lose the bulk without gaining saggy skin is something many lipouction patients will be happy to hear. The improved treatment may even one day replace the usual “tummy tuck.”
