Asthma linked to Genetics
(Ivanhoe Newswire) – More than 25 million Americans have asthma, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, and African American males are among those at greatest risk for severe attacks.
A new study shows that genetics may be responsible.
African ancestry had a significant association with severe asthma attacks among African American males, but not females, concluded allergist Jennifer Rumpel, M.D. and lead author of the study.
Researchers believe that an increase in asthma among indivuals in this populatio may contribute to the genetic link.
