Ivanhoe Producer Selected to Participate in Prestigious Health Care Reporting Workshop
ORLANDO, FL (July 6, 2004) -- Stacie Overton, Director of Medical Programming for Ivanhoe Broadcast News in Orlando, Fla., is one out of nine journalists chosen from across the country to participate in a five-day workshop focusing on the field of health care reporting at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.
Research shows because most journalists are not as familiar with health care research as health care providers, they may not be receiving the right facts required for stories. This workshop has selected seven knowledgeable journalists to discuss the issues of medical reporting such as what questions to ask, how to uncover the answers to these questions and applying the answers they need to their stories correctly.
The Rocky Mountain Workshop is holding its sixth annual session on How to Practice Evidence-Based Heath Care. The workshop runs from August 8-12, 2004, and hosted by Ray Moynihan, a medical journalist, and Andy Oxman, a health services researcher. The two will discuss with selected journalists the principles of EBHC, which will assist them in covering health care stories.
Participants will have the opportunity to interact with other faculty and participants, such as researchers, clinicians and policy makers. Past participants included physicians, nurses, policy makers, physical therapists, medical librarians, health care journalists and educators.
This is Overton's third achievement in the last 12 months. She also won the prestigious Accolade and Freddie awards for two television series she produced as a part of Ivanhoe's syndicated medical news series, Medical Breakthroughs.
